The number of complaints made against gardaí in the Kerry Division last year was almost double that of the previous year.
According to the annual report of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission, its office received a total of 116 allegations against gardaí in Kerry in 2013. This was up from 65 in 2012.
Meanwhile, two cases in Kerry in 2013 were referred to GSOC by the Garda Commissioner.
The commissioner may pass onto GSOC any conduct by a garda which may have resulted in the death of, or serious harm to, a person. The details of the cases are not specified in the report.
The Garda Ombudsman says it’s been a busy and at times difficult year, with more than 2,000 complaints made against Gardaí nationally.
