« BackNew head of Kerry Garda Division to target suicide in 2017

GARDAThe new head of the Kerry Garda Division says he’ll be targeting suicide in the coming year.

Chief Superintendent Tom Myers says he’s done a lot of work in his previous roles in Cork in relation to suicide prevention, and will be continuing this in Kerry.

So far this year, there have been 20 suicides in Kerry, and 46 cases of self-harm.

Chief Superintendent Myers says Gardaí are usually the first responders to suicides, so he hopes to provide suicide alertness training to community gardaí and juvenile liaison officers.
