A Kerry TD is calling on the government to provide clarity on Farm Assist and Rural Social Scheme assessment.
Kerry Fianna Fáil TD, John Brassil said that the decision to reintroduce the 30% disregard of means and to reinstate allowances for children as part of the Farm Assist Scheme will be welcomed by many low-income Kerry farmers.
The Kerry TD is calling on the government to provide clarity on Farm Assist and Rural Social Scheme assessment.
The Social Protection Minister Leo Varadkar confirmed that the changes in assessment will take effect in March 2017.
However, according to Deputy Brassil, there are still a number of questions that remain unanswered.
The Fianna Fail TD said that the Department has been unable to tell him whether every farmer’s income would be adjusted by March, or whether retrospective payments will be paid to people who are reassessed after March.
Mr Brassil is calling on the Minister to clarify these issues and to ensure that all farmers who qualify for Farm Assist or the Rural Social Scheme benefit from these changes from next March.
