« BackAmerican tourist had to travel to Dublin hospital for dialysis

headerAn American tourist visiting this county had to make an 8 hour return journey to Dublin to get dialysis.

The Health Service Executive says the dialysis unit at University Hospital Kerry doesn’t have the resources to provide dialysis to visitors to the county.

It’s told Deputy John Brassil and Cllr John Francis Flynn that the hospital has had to decline these requests  because it has to prioritise the clinical needs of people living in Kerry.

Kieran Flynn has a coach business in Castlemaine.

Recently, he had to take a tourist from Boston to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for dialysis.

The appointments were at 3 and 6 in the morning.

Mr Flynn says even though the tourist and his family enjoyed their holiday in Kerry, they will probably not return because of the lack of dialysis facilities.
